Joint Area Inspection - Report on an inspection visit to police custody suites in Southwark Basic Command Unit - April 2008
This is the first in a published series of reports of inspections of police custody suites carried out by both of our inspectorates. This is a key part of the joint work programme for criminal justice inspectorates, agreed with Ministers. It arises from the UK’s international obligation to ensure regular and independent inspection of all places of detention.1 The inspections look not only at the implementation of statutory requirements, but also at the conditions of detention and the treatment of detainees.
